Since 1979, The World Health Organization has advocated the use of acupuncture to aid in a range of symptoms. The following is a list of disorders which have been recognized by the WHO as "having been successfully treated by acupuncture."

Musculoskeletal
lower back pain, tennis elbow, knee pain, neck/shoulder pain, sciatica, arthritis, joint swelling/pain, osteoporosis, muscle strain, hip pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist strain, sporting injuries; whiplash, sprained ankles and knees, cartilage problems, tearing of muscles, torn ligaments and bruises, scar tissue

Women's Health
premenstrual syndrome, painful periods, excessive menstrual bleeding, irregular menstruation, endometriosis, fertility disorders, menopausal syndrome, frequent UTIs

Pregnancy
morning sickness, fetal malposition (breech, transverse, etc) delivery assistance, labor induction

Neurological
headaches, migraines, insomnia, nervous tension, dizziness, shingles, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis

Cardiovascular
low or high blood pressure, fluid retention, chest pain, poor circulation, palpitations, stroke

Psychological
stress, anxiety, addictions, depression, panic attacks, irritability, bipolar syndrome, post- traumatic stress disorder

Respiratory
